Sweet Sixteen Results: First Top Seeds Make It

Half of the Sweet Sixteen match up action has concluded today. The results are not that surprising as the top seeds made to the Elite Eight. Aside from that, one Cinderella team made it as well as expected. The next half of match ups tomorrow will finalize who will make it to the Elite Eight.

The first game played was the battle between two underdog teams. Dayton, the team that scored upsets with wins against Ohio State and Syracuse, bested Stanford 82-72.

Next game was between two teams that met a men’s basketball game for the very first time ever, Wisconsin versus Baylor. Unfamiliarity between each other’s teams made this match up an exciting prospect. But in the end, it was 2nd seeded Wisconsin who won against 8th seed Baylor 69-52.

The final two match ups for the day were battles that feature two top seeds. Number one seed Florida went up against UCLA and won out, 79-68. This is the fourth consecutive time that the Gators have reached the NCAA regional finals. The other game has top seed Arizona going against San Diego State. The game was an exciting match with an upset by the Aztecs in the air during the early goings of the game. But the Wildcats were able to keep their composure and came up with the win, 70-64.

The first four winning teams are now part of the Elite Eight. The next match ups will be Florida going against Dayton and Arizona versus Wisconsin.

The four other match ups remaining that will complete the Elite Eight will be played tomorrow. Top seed Virginia will play against Michigan State. Iowa State will go against Connecticut. Kentucky and Louisville will go head to head while underdog team Tennessee will try to extend its Cinderella run in the tournament by going against second seeded Michigan.
